Ted Sherwen
Ted Sherwen trained as a lithographic artist in Glasgow, Scotland. During his apprenticeship, he studied lithographic drawing and design at the Glasgow College of Printing. Ted went on to tutor at the college for 12 years. In 1974, the Sherwen family made New Zealand their home and it was the beginning of great opportunities for Ted.
Throughout the 1980s he travelled to the United States to study with leading water colourist Rex Brandt. In turn Ted’s work has evolved and developed into a unique and easily identifiable style that has put him at the forefront of New Zealand water colourists. He has received awards for his work in Scotland and New Zealand and he is a member of both the NZ Academy of Fine Arts and the Wellington Society of Watercolour Artists.
These days Ted travels extensively spending time in Italy and the United Kingdom from which he returns with much inspiration. With more than forty years experience as a professional artist Sherwen has become a popular tutor, holding workshops throughout New Zealand and taking classes at the Mairangi Bay Arts Centre.
