Marua Chadwick

My interest in Art began at Secondary School and continued through to Teachers Training College and into the class room. I taught at both Primary and Secondary levels, but was able  more particularly at the Primary level to use my love for art as a vehicle in the development of other skills with pupils. I prefer Abstract painting - it allows me to develop from the imagination a form which is free and unrestricted by precision and convention. I am influenced by colour, events and spirituality and these are motivational triggers to my work.As I have Maori ancestry,my painting will often contain elements of ‘tikanga’ - customs, culture and beliefs. I also draw inspiration from tribal legends.

 

I  have contributed to group exhibitions in Auckland, Hamilton and Napier and have had pieces in Galleries in Rotorua, Taupo and Napier.
