Shirley and Brian Dodd
Shirley's love of colour dominates her art which has spanned realism through to semi-abstract to abstract paintings. Shirley has recently begun painting again after taking a break for several years. Prior to that Shirley and her husband Brian embraced their love of painting together, taking one particularly memorable trip thirteen years ago to the south of France and Italy. They took with them pen and ink, pastels, coloured pencils and felt-tip pens and re-created such memorable places as the famous San Antimo abbey in Tuscany, Italy and the tower of L'abbaye de Senanque in Provence, France.
That trip helped Brian hone his eye for painting which he took up on his retirement from his career as an architect. He was tutored in pastel painting by Marie Sanders before he began painting landscapes under the tutelage of Lance O’Gorman. Brian’s love of art has been encouraged by numerous sales of his work over recent years.
