Isla Osborne

Glass is both subject and object in Isla’s work and its chemical and physical properties fascinate her. Her process consists of making finely crafted glass beads, melted with a torch according to traditional Italian methods.

In this body of work, viruses as seen through a microscope, are individually lampworked in glass. Using the virus as a metaphor for the spread of ideas through communities, Isla presents a thoughtful view of the world we live in.

Isla holds a diploma in Graphic Design from UCol and a post-graduate diploma in Technology from Massey University. She lived and worked in London for 10 years before returning to home in 2007. Isla has exhibited widely within New Zealand as well as in the UK, USA and Australia.
