Gabriella Klepatski

I was born and educated in Poland, but spend the last 26 years living in New Zealand.

By trade I’m an architect, but my real passion is illustrating, which I’ve been doing, on and off, over last 20 years.

I’ve worked for most NZ publishing houses, illustrating books for authors such as Dorothy Butler, Margaret Mahy, Diana Noonan and recently Melinda Szymanik.

I also used to work for advertisers (in the pre- computer era), developers (archit. presentation) and I do tutoring in drawing.

My biggest fascination lies with people of all kinds, all ages, in all sorts of situations and moods.

As for my technique – I work in a variety of media, often mixing them together, incorporating photos into my images, experimenting with interesting tools and materials.

I am available for any kind of illustrating/graphic work, from cartooning, personalised books and stationery, large posters, to architectural presentation … anything that can be turned into an image.

My illustrations are rendered in a manual way, however I use computer to process my freehand sketches and enhance my illustrations in a number of ways.

Last year in April, I held my first successful solo exhibition at the Devonport’s Art Depot in Auckland. Apart from that, I participate regularly in various art exhibitions in Auckland and Wellington area.
