Margaret Bonnington

Born in New Zealand, Margaret Bonnington commenced painting in the mid eighties. She nurtures an intense interest in art history and the paintings of the early Italian Renaissance.


In 1994 she was accepted to study at Les Ateliers du Beaucet in France. She studied for a Diploma in traditional methods of fresco painting, traditional water gilding, and plaster/marble restoration. She continued to live in France and worked for a restoration team restoring frescoes in a 14th century church north of Avignon. She studied and worked at the Atelier de Restauration in Avignon, and focused on restoration work, conservation of paper, gilding and painting with egg tempera.


She has been exhibiting for 20 years in galleries around New Zealand and overseas, and has won numerous art awards. She executes many commissions for both private and business house collections.
