Rosslyn Johnson
Creativity has been a part of Rosslyn’s life for as long as she can remember. These days her creative outlet is her acrylic and mixed media works on canvas and board. Rosslyn applies her thin paint layers and glazes using various texturing techniques to create a look she describes as “contemporary realism”. She knows she has succeeded when she steps back and the finished artwork in front of her draws her right into that snapshot of time. Her subject matter includes landscapes, streetscapes, beach scenes, native birds and flowers. “I like to say that I paint what I see, at I see it"
Rosslyn’s inspiration comes from throughout New Zealand, from the high country and turquoise glacial lakes of the South Island to the beaches, mountains and rivers of the North Island. She also enjoys painting scenes from throughout the world. “My art is an excuse to travel and the sights I see give me a reason to paint”
Her work is held in private collections in New Zealand and overseas including the United Kingdom and Ireland, the United States, Canada, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and Australia.
Rosslyn was a finalist in the Telecom White Pages Art selection and the People’s Choice award winner at the Pirongia Art Awards.
Her works have appeared at the National Art Exhibition in Napier, Cambridge Art Society exhibition, the Waikato Landscapes and “One Size Fits All” exhibitions at the Thornton Gallery, the Wallace Gallery in Morrinsville and in Australian Artist Magazine.
