Arya Mogi Antara

Born in the remote Indonesian village of Damsaya on the island of Sulawesi, Arya Mogi Antara contracted polio as a young child but grew up determined to overcome his disabilities.

At the age of six, his family moved to Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city, where he went to school. By the time Mogi was eight years old, his natural aptitude for drawing and colour was evident.

After he completed his schooling, he turned what had been a hobby into his career, adopting his middle name Mogi as his nom-de-plume.

Now in his late thirties, Mogi’s painting style has evolved to yield abstract creations, usually featuring bold, bright, primary colours but revealing a subtle finesse and depth of style. His large paintings echo his larger-than-life talent which saw him exhibit his work at the Lake House Art Centre earlier this year.
