John Gray

Born and educated in London, John's professional career started with four years fulltime study towards a National Diploma in Design and Illustration. He exhibited with the Society of Graphic Artists to which he was elected. He also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists "Young Contempories"  show in London.

A number of years working in London advertising agencies was followed by five years in Sydney working as an illustrator and freelance designer. He returned to London for a further ten years as  art director and graphic designer working for a number of major UK companies. On arrival in Auckland in 1968 to take up a position as Art Director he also tutored part time at ATI Design school and then subsequently developed his own business.

A lifelong interest in gouache painting resulted in some success exhibiting at the Auckland Easter Show, in three succesive years winning  a second, third and a first prize in their competitions. Being at heart an illustrator his work has an emphasis on figures in situations that could be telling a story. Commissioned work has found a place in both corporate and private collections in this country and overseas.
