Affair of the Heart is a showcase of art, sculpture and craft with works by local and regional artists exhibited and on sale. It’s run by a dedicated committee of Northcote College parents and volunteers and has grown since it started in 2005 to become a fixture in the annual calendar of events both for Northcote College and the Northcote and Birkenhead community.
Funds raised for the school over the years are impressive:
2005 – $15,000
2006 – $27,000
2007 – $28,000
2008 – $23,000
2009 – $25,000
2010 – $26,000
2011 – $30,000
2012 – $31,000
2013 – $33,000
2014 – $42,000
The benefits for Northcote College have been enormous. Funds have been used to purchase hall theatre equipment, including lighting, a haze machine, microphones, two high-end projectors with motorised screens, and a PA system. Funds have also allowed for the construction of a sound room backstage. We have been able to purchase data projector screens for classrooms, iMac computers, a digital piano and an amplifier. Affair of the Heart has paid for some AV technician’s time.
In 2009 we contributed to the restoration of a World War II Honours Board commemorating past pupils who had fallen in battle. In 2010, Affair of the Heart funds provided a new framed aerial photograph of the college which you can see hanging in the administration corridor. In the 2010/11 summer holiday break we were able to upgrade the student cafe facilities for the new contractor to start his lease for the 2011 school year. We also purchased a travelling irrigator for the school sports fields and used more of the funds raised to pay for the council water connection required so that we can use the irrigator for the dry months. In 2013 funds raised went towards the purchase of a new school van.
Affair of the Heart 2014 was another great success with more raised from the sale of art and sponsorship than ever before. The committee, staff and students of Northcote College would like to thank everyone who helps make Affair of the Heart such a success and look forward to seeing you again in 2015.
None of this would be possible without the support of everyone who makes this event a success; the committee, the sponsors, the artists, the staff, students and parents of Northcote College, volunteers and, of course, the buyers and patrons.
